“Where do we begin after our child receives a diagnosis?”

Behind this seemingly simple question can be a wide range of emotions that only families who have been through this experience can truly understand.

Some parents may feel overwhelmed, unsure of what the diagnosis really means for their child. Some may worry about the future and wonder what they should expect. Others may immediately begin searching for every possible form of support, only to find themselves facing an overwhelming amount of information and uncertainty about which path is right for their child.

And some parents simply need time—to understand, to come to terms with a new reality, and to adjust the expectations they once held for their child’s journey of growing up.

These emotions can look very different for every family. That is why, after a diagnosis, parents may need more than an answer to “What kind of support does my child need?” They may also need to understand “How can our family move forward together?”

Through Workshop #Episode 02, VICA hopes to create a safe and open space where parents can:

✔️ Understand the emotional responses and changes they may experience after their child receives a diagnosis.
✔️ Gradually move from uncertainty and worry toward greater understanding and acceptance of their child and their individual needs.
✔️ Develop realistic and appropriate expectations for their child’s developmental journey.
✔️ Explore ways to support and accompany their child in everyday life without allowing a diagnosis to define who their child is.
✔️ Recognize and care for their own emotional well-being throughout a journey that may be long and challenging.
✔️ Build meaningful connections and collaboration among families, teachers, and professionals supporting their child.

Speakers:

• Ms. Simona Bossoni – Co-Founder & Clinical Director of VICA
• Dr. Nguyen Dieu Anh – Ph.D. in Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology | Lecturer, Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM

Workshop #Episode 02 is not intended to offer a single “formula” for every family, because every child is unique, and every family has its own journey.

Instead, VICA hopes that the professional insights and meaningful conversations shared during the workshop will offer parents greater understanding, practical perspectives, and renewed confidence in finding the approach that best supports their child and their family.

Because your child is still the same child—before and after a diagnosis. What can change is our understanding. And when we understand our child more deeply, we can choose better ways to walk alongside them on the journey ahead.
